Here's a nice piece from Image and Data Manager about potential risks in smart pattern-sensing and suggesting applications like MS Office Delve. It may detect patterns you wouldn't want disclosed, and all because the permissions regime has not kept pace with the the machine capabilities. This usually happens because governance and information security work on outdated habits and assumptions. On a related note, check out this talk on "Search Among Secrets" by Prof Douglas Oard, for ISKO Singapore on May 25th! By Patrick Lambe

We have reported at an ISKO Singapore event on the knowledge organisation competencies survey that we started after last year's IKO conference. Afterwards we had a lively discussion led by a panel of experts. The full report materials, together with the panel discussion report, and links to an ISKO UK event on the same topic, can be found at the ISKO Singapore event page. Check out the ISKO event materials page for links to resources from all their events. Patrick Lambe
The programme for IKO is starting to come together nicely, with some fantastic case studies from Singapore, Europe, the United States and Australia. In response to some requests from participants last year, we'll have a set of pre-conference "Getting Started" workshops, and we are honoured to have content analytics expert Tom Reamy keynote for us. Matt Moore will return for a keynote on how to build organisational capabilities for knowledge organisation, building on his work with us last year on knowledge organisation competencies. The programme is still growing, so do submit a case proposal if you have one to share, and do register early to take advantage of the early bird rates. Patrick Lambe
The materials from the ISKO Singapore January meeting with Maish Nichani on "Planning for Enterprise Search" are available at this page. Enjoy! Patrick Lambe
Nice piece from Joe Dossantos of EMC on the importance of curation, direction-finding and organisation in large data collections. Includes a good framework for considering trade-offs in governance. (Thanks to Matt Moore for this). Patrick Lambe
Matt Moore and Kelly Tall have written an extended review of the IKO 2015 Conference for Thomson Reuters' Online Currents. Here's an extract: "The conference was a great deal of fun to be involved in, with a good balance of content delivery and audience participation. There was a good mix of attendees - practitioners, consultants, academics and vendors. The number of people (approximately 100) also allowed the opportunity to talk to significant proposition of other participants. Most were from Singapore but some were from farther afield - including an attendee from Scotland!" You can access the full report here. We are now in the midst of planning IKO 2016, which will take place in the second half of July. Drop us a note if you have ideas or suggestions to make it an even better event in 2016! At the IKO Conference in June we looked at the rise of NoSQL database systems, and in particular graph databases. In this account of a major transformation for the Marriott International's mainframe central reservations system, we have a great case study of the drivers towards NoSQL and away from relational databases. The case study is about Couchbase, a key-value store, document-oriented database (different from graph databases). By Patrick Lambe
Here's a nice survey report from AIIM on next generation information management competencies - heavy USA and Europe slant in the results, but interesting nevertheless. Risk and security are going to be big skill sets to worry about, as well as dealing with multiple devices.
